Few people are born with a perfect nose. Because it’s such a prominent facial feature, it’s no surprise that a lot of men and women consider surgically improving its appearance at one point or another. If you are one of them, and you live in Southern California, consider seeking the expertise of our plastic surgery team at Tayani Institute.
Rhinoplasty can address a variety of cosmetic concerns, including the following:
If you are considering rhinoplasty, it’s important that your nose has stopped developing. Our plastic surgeon will not perform rhinoplasty on young teenagers or anyone whose nose may still be growing. Good candidates for a nose job:
If you have already had a nose job and are unhappy with the results, we urge you to wait at least a year before considering revision surgery, to ensure that all post-surgical swelling has disappeared.
Rhinoplasty is performed using either an open or closed approach. During an open rhinoplasty, our plastic surgeon makes an incision along the small strip of skin separating your nostrils (called the columella). During a closed rhinoplasty, our plastic surgeon makes incisions within your nostrils. Open rhinoplasty allows greater access to the underlying nasal structures, but closed rhinoplasty does not leave any visible incision lines or scarring. The approach our plastic surgeon takes will be pre-determined during your surgical consultation.
After making the rhinoplasty incisions, our plastic surgeon carefully lifts the skin from the underlying tissues; then, depending on the treatment plan, the surgical alterations are made. These could include correcting a deviated septum, smoothing a bump on the bridge of your nose, refining the tip of your nose or bringing your nose into better proportion with the rest of your face.
Finally, our plastic surgeon closes the incisions with sutures and then bandages your nose.
Your nose will be bruised and swollen after surgery; the swelling may even extend to the area underneath your eyes. The majority of the swelling will go down within about two weeks, but it can take up to a year to completely disappear. Keep in mind that swelling can distort your final results, so do not feel discouraged if you are not immediately happy with the way your nose looks.
It’s important to avoid anything that could cause trauma to your nose as it heals. For example, you will need to sleep on your back and avoid wearing glasses for a few days after surgery. We will clear you to return to work/school within seven to 10 days of surgery.
