About Dr. Joson

Peter J. Joson, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is fellowship-trained in glaucoma and has extensive experience diagnosing and treating general ophthalmic conditions. Dr. Joson cares for patients at Tayani Institute, which has locations in San Clemente, Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, Irvine, Oceanside, Big Bear Lake, Santa Ana and Brea, California.

Dr. Joson completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he double majored in biology and economics, and was then accepted into medical school. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.

Dr. Joson completed an internal medicine internship, followed by an ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. He then returned to New York to pursue a competitive fellowship program at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary with Robert Ritch, MD, a preeminent leader in the field of glaucoma.

Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Joson is a trusted practitioner. He’s a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Joson is a founding member and officer of the Orange County Glaucoma Society. He has held leadership positions in the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology and the Association of Philippine Physicians in America. He has been recognized as a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association.

Dr. Joson is committed to research and teaching, and he has conducted extensive research at the University of California, Los Angeles’ Jules Stein Eye Institute. He has presented and published scientific papers in both the basic and clinical science of glaucoma. Dr. Joson is also proficient in cataract surgery, as well as modern medical, laser, and surgical treatments for glaucoma.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Joson is an advocate and volunteer for EyeCare America and The Illumination Foundation. In addition, he and his wife enjoy all things Disney (he worked at Disneyland selling corn dogs while in high school) and traveling both domestically and internationally. He also enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling, running, snowboarding, and hiking, and participating in duathlons and triathlons.
