What is laser eye surgery?

Laser eye surgery refers to ophthalmologic surgical procedures performed with the use of innovative advanced laser technology. The term laser eye surgery is also commonly used to refer to LASIK®.

What are some of the different types of laser eye surgeries?

There are different types of laser eye surgical procedures and laser technologies. LASIK is one of the most commonly performed eye surgeries involving the use of laser technology, but there are many other types of laser eye surgeries, including:

LASIK

LASIK is a laser eye surgery (refractive surgery) for the correction of conditions like hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism. Learn More

Cataract surgery

With cataract surgery, the femtosecond laser technology can be utilized to remove a cloudy lens and replace it with an intraocular lens.

With laser cataract surgery, your surgeon creates a precise and highly customized surgical plan for the corneal incision with a sophisticated 3-D image of the eye (OCT — optical coherence tomography).

Tayani Institute provides bladeless cataract surgery and is the only surgery facility in South Orange County offering the LenSx femtosecond laser for bladeless cataract surgery. Learn More

Eyelid surgery

Eyelid surgery often involves laser technology to correct a number of issues such as hooded eyelids (a fold of skin that hangs over the crease of your eye). Learn More

Clear lens extraction

A clear lens extraction refers to a procedure performed to replace the natural lens in your eye with an artificial intraocular lens. There are different types of lenses available.

The lens replacement surgery is usually performed with numbing anesthetic drops on an outpatient basis and takes around 15 minutes. Each eye is done separately, typically about one week apart. A clear lens extraction is also known as a refractive procedure. Learn More

Other types of laser eye surgery

Laser surgery can also be used to carefully burn segments of the blood vessels in your eyes to reduce macular edema and slow leaking.

Corticosteroids can be implanted or injected into your eye along with laser therapy to reduce swelling and inflammation.

Tayani Institute also provides the selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) that involves the use of low energy lasers to drain fluid from your eye and relieve pressure.

SLT is non-invasive and can be completed in less than five minutes. SLT is typically performed to treat glaucoma where there’s damage to the nerves in your eye usually due to high pressure.

Laser technology offers many benefits and significantly improves ophthalmologic care. Some of the benefits include:
