Following your eye exam, your Tayani Institute eye specialist might recommend you get new glasses or an updated prescription.

What types of contact lenses are available?

If you need to update a contact lens prescription or if you already wear glasses and want to try contact lenses, there are effective options to choose from, such as:

  • Soft lenses
  • Silicone hydrogel lenses
  • Gas permeable lenses
  • Hybrid contact lenses
  • Toric lenses for astigmatism
  • Multifocal lenses
  • Colored contact lenses

Traditional reusable lenses are a budget-friendly option if you’re diligent about caring for and cleaning your contact lenses.

You might prefer the disposable lenses for convenience, or if you’d rather avoid removing and inserting your contact lenses every day, extended wear lenses are another option to consider.

Ortho-K lenses

Tayani Institute also offers Ortho-K® contact lenses (orthokeratology or corneal refractive therapy or CRT).

This involves special contact lenses you wear overnight to temporarily reshape your cornea. You remove the lenses in the morning and after a few days to a week, you should notice less dependence on glasses and vision improvements.

Ortho-K lenses usually provide effective temporary results, such as fewer dry eye symptoms and improvement of myopia and astigmatism.

Ortho-K contact lenses are FDA-approved for both children and adults and the lenses usually are replaced once a year. Ortho-K lenses are derived from highly oxygen-permeable materials that allow enough oxygen to pass through the lens and keep your eyes healthy while you sleep.

How do I know if I need contact lenses or glasses?

Your Tayani Institute eye specialist tells you whether you need contact lenses or glasses following an eye exam.

The American Optometric Association recommends that both children and adults receive regular eye exams to prevent or identify eye health problems and vision issues.

Eye exams should begin around the age of six months for children and should be repeated at age 3 and again before school begins. If there aren’t any eye issues identified after that, children can have their eyes examined every two years until their 18th birthday.

Adults should receive eye exams every year or two between ages 18-60 and every year after age 60.

To schedule an eye exam or obtain a prescription for new glasses or contact lenses, book online or call Tayani Institute.
